Mount and Blade Warband Easy Way to Add More Companions
Everyone needs a good friend, right? At least, that's the rule Mount & Blade: Warband seems to live by.
Companions have been a part of video games since the early days of the industry. Fallout: New Vegas offered Lily and Boone, among others, as friends in the field of battle, Booker had Elizabeth by his side in Bioshock Infinite, even Mario had Luigi in plumber brotherhood. And Mount & Blade: Warband has 16 different companions that can be recruited.
Each of them will seek to help you to the best of their ability, and some will do a better job than others. Some of them have elite stats and a high price point for their services, some of them will cost you nothing at all to recruit and have the stats to match that price point. Our mission today is to sort the good from the great and crown the best overall companion in Mount & Blade: Warband.
10/10 Lezalit

Some of the greatest companions in all of Mount & Blade: Warband are the ones that can do a little bit of everything for you, and Lezalit falls easily into that camp.
Unfortunately, for Lezalit's elite services, you'll need to hand over a pretty penny of 400 Denars. But if you find yourself rich and sitting pretty in a position to pay big bucks for top-tier talent, you'll find that Lezalit is one of the best in the business with a strong intelligence rating of 11 and a solid strength stat of nine.
9/10 Baheshtur

Baheshtur doesn't like not getting his fair share of money for his services, and that will cost you 400 Denars if you choose to recruit him. But if you're willing to overlook that high price tag, Baheshtur will reward you with some great stats.
He's sharp as a tack with an intelligence rating of 12, he's strong with nine strength, he's quick with nine agility, and he's, well, he's actually not very charismatic. You'll need to overlook that too. But other than the price and the low charisma, Baheshtur is one of the best companions in the game.
8/10 Artimenner

Artimenner possesses the power of uniqueness, as he stands as the only companion in all of Mount & Blade: Warband to hold a skill in engineering.
That shows up in his baseline statistics as well, with an incredibly strong intelligence rating of 12.
However, Artimenner is more than just a big brain, with strong numbers in both strength and agility. But the reason you add Artimenner to your posse isn't just for the smarts, as this companion also has a tactical skill as well.
7/10 Firentis

You know how they say food tastes better when it's free? Well, take that logic, and apply it here, to video games. Sure, Firentis has a charisma rating equivalent to a pet rock but when you take into account the fact that you can recruit him for free, well, you start looking on the bright side.
That charisma stat of five becomes a bit more palatable when you take note of his strength and intelligence ratings of ten, and an agility rating of 12 that stands alone as the highest in the game among companions.
6/10 Jeremus

Speaking of free companions, there's also Jeremus. You can't have the discussion of great Mount & Blade: Warband companions without Jeremus being somewhere in the mix.
He gets held back a bit in the overall rankings for specializing in one particular skill rather than being good at everything - but with an intelligence rating of 13, tied for the highest among any companion, it's easier to overlook the things he can't do as well, like anything based in charisma and agility.
5/10 Alayen

Alayen is a brute. Not only because the only two things he dislikes according to the game are failing and retreating, and not only because two of his main skills are Power Strike and Weapon Master, but also because of his raw strength rating of 11, the second-highest in the game.
Alayen isn't as versatile as some of the other companions. He won't win the room with his charisma or win an episode of Jeopardy! with his wits, but if you're looking to do more fighting than talking, Alayen is the best companion you could have by your side.
4/10 Matheld

Recruiting Matheld to your party will cost you more than any other companion, with her being the only party member that runs a 500 Denar price tag. But oh, man, are Matheld's services worth it.
Matheld possesses nines and tens across the board in rating stats, with the nines coming in strength and intelligence and the tens being in agility in charisma. Being a balanced character that can be counted on for just about whatever is required is a strength in its own right, as are Matheld's Weapon Master and athletics skills. Matheld can do it all, and do it all very well.
3/10 Bunduk

One of the things that makes Bunduk great is that he stands for all the right things. If you care more about the roleplaying elements than you do the actual gameplay of Mount & Blade: Warband, you'll love Bunduk. According to the game, his dislikes include robbing people and excessive killing. He's just a chill dude.
Beyond that, he's also no statistical slouch, with the highest strength stat of any companion, as well as good charisma numbers. But more importantly, he's just a nice fella.
2/10 Katrin

If you find yourself companion recruiting on a budget, there are fewer options available better than Katrin. Granted, you can recruit some of the companions in Mount & Blade: Warband for absolutely free. But what you won't get in those free options are the incredible stats of Katrin, who has agility, charisma, and intelligence ratings all over 10.
Some companions with equal ratings can cost up to 500 Denars to recruit - you can get Katrin on your team for 100.
1/10 Rolf

Nobody is perfect in this world. Except for Rolf, of course. Rolf is perfect. He isn't just well-rounded with middling stats, he's well-rounded with some of the best stats in the game.
You will not find a companion in the entirety of Mount & Blade: Warband with a better mix of balance and highly rated stats. Rolf is tied for the highest intelligence stat among his companion counterparts with Jeremus at 12 but unlike the other Einsteins in the game, Rolf can win over a room and pack a punch when need be, with charisma and strength stats both in the double figures.
